Beginner's Luck
October 2003:
Beginner's Luck (2001)
is available on DVD (region 2) from November 10th and can be
preordered from
play.com
and
blackstar.co.uk. Review: For many 19 year olds freedom
from home and their parents leads to Sex, Drugs and Rock
N'Roll. For those more daring, more wild and more stupid,
there is always...fringe theatre. Beginner's Luck is a film
for all those reckless enough to have tried to put on a
play; to remind them of the joy, the laughs and the horror.
For those who have never experienced being involved in the
mounting of their own production Beginner's Luck will show
them exactly what they have been missing. From the seedier
side of Soho to glamourous Paris by way of the Ediburgh
fringe festival this unusual road movie is based on true
events (the names have been changed to protect the
embarrassed).

Before Sunrise 2
September 2003: Richard Linklater told Arizona
Daily Star recently that he, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy
just finished shooting the follow-up to "Before Sunrise" in
Paris - only a short 15-day shoot too. The untitled film
takes place 9 years after the events of the first movie, and
"deals with the romance very realistically" according to
Linklater. Thanks to Jeff for this info! Source:

Before Sunrise sequel
July 2003: Castle Rock Entertainment and filmmaker
Richard Linklater will reteam with Ethan Hawke and Julie
Delpy to make a followup to Linklater's 1995 romance,
Before Sunrise.
The
film will shoot this fall in Paris. In the
original, young American Jesse (Hawke) and French student
Celine (Delpy) meet on a train in Europe. They take a side
trip to Vienna that lasts just one night, but discover they
have an intense connection. It comes to a bittersweet end
when they part at the train station the next morning.
Read the complete script. In the
sequel, it's nine years later and Jesse is on the French leg
of the book tour for his novel when he finds Celine once
more. Sources:

novel. The goal of Connor's remake is to stick as close as
possible to the original novel. Source:

July 2003:
Julie Delpy's CD is now available from amazon.com. I knew she had a beautiful voice, but her
brilliant singing and songwriting is quite a surprise. An
impressive piece of work from a multi-talented lady. My
warmest recommendations...

Filmmakers unite to form sales agency
May 2003: A band of festival-calibre filmmakers
and producers are seeking a radical overhaul of the film
sales business through a new agency that has secured
financing for the initial year from the International
Filmmakers Collective.
Buena Onda
Films was formally established last month as a
London-registered production and sales collective with the
blessing of numerous like-minded filmmakers. They are
seeking nothing less than a new paradigm for financing and
selling films. Together, this group have assembled a debut
slate of part-financed or completed titles from directors
such as Eliseo Subiela, Rui Guerra, Julie Delpy,
Pablo Trapero, writers such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and
Luis Sepulveda and first time directors Philippe Barcinsky
from Brazil, Anthony Lucero from the US.

Villa des Roses on DVD
April 2003: "Villa des Roses" is now
available on DVD (region 2)! Excerpt from the
Amazon review:
"Julie Delpy is strong on wistful charm, while
Shaun Dingwall gives a confident performance. This is
stylish film-making... Villa des
Roses' widescreen format reproduces the film's faded
elegance with commendable naturalness, though the sombre
half-lights and Paul M van Brugge's moody score make Paris
seem anything but gay. The theatrical trailer is also
included."

Crime and Punishment on DVD
April 2003: "Crime and Punishment" is now
available on DVD (region 2)! Excerpt from
Hallmark's synopsis: "This spectacular drama filled with stunning sets and costumes brings to life one of the world's great literary achievements.
Set in 19th century Russia, it touches upon the questions and issues that still plague our society: morality, ethics and conscience.
This legendary tale takes a penetrating look at how one man's
selfish act forever changes his life and the lives of
everyone close to him."
